FDH Summer Associate Program

About Us
Finn Dixon & Herling was founded in 1987 based on a conviction that the firm would succeed if we provided outstanding legal services, prioritized our clients’ needs, and adhered to certain core values: a commitment to the highest professional standards, a dedication to working as a team, and a concern for the welfare of our clients, attorneys, and staff. Our founders believed we could be faithful to those values while providing the highest quality legal representation.

Chambers USA has named FDH a top-ranked corporate and M&A firm every year since 2003, when such rankings began, and a top-ranked white-collar litigation firm since 2020.

FDH adheres to the highest ethical standards and takes our responsibilities seriously as members of the legal profession. We view the practice of law as a privilege that brings with it a responsibility to give back to our community. We have an extensive pro bono practice, through which we provide legal assistance to veterans and refugees, advice to local non-profits, and serve as counsel in federal civil rights lawsuits. We are equally and deeply committed to promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion in the legal profession.

Practice Areas
FDH practice areas include Corporate, Investment Management, Debt Finance, Executive Compensation, Tax, and Litigation.  Our summer program is focused on experience in corporate/M&A transactional work, with some exposure to the firm’s other practice areas.
Summer Associate Experience
Summer associates are given the opportunity to work on live deals and are assigned matters by attorneys at the firm. As a mid-size firm based in a single office, summer associates are regularly given far more responsibility than they might receive elsewhere. At the end of the program, summer associates will receive comprehensive feedback from every attorney that assigned or partnered with them on a matter.
Program Term
10 weeks
Compensation
Pro-rata based on a first-year associate salary. Current first year associate salary is $171,000.
Hybrid Work Environment
Summer associates will work in the office at least two days a week.
Firm Life
We encourage summer associates to participate in all aspects of firm life, from weekly firm-wide meetings to out-of-office events, such as practice group gatherings, team-building games, a firm-wide beach barbecue, and a golf and tennis outing.
