The Board of Regents of the American College of Tax Counsel (the “College”) elected Michael P. Spiro into its ranks as a Fellow at its February meeting held in Los Angeles. The American College of Tax Counsel is a nonprofit association of tax attorneys who are recognized for their excellence in tax practice and their substantial contributions and commitment to the legal profession. To become a Fellow of the College, individuals must be nominated by a current Fellow and then evaluated by a committee of the College’s Board of Regents. Criteria for membership in the College include having been a member of the bar of one or more states of the United States (or the District of Columbia, possessions, or territories of the United States) for at least 15 years prior to the date of their election to membership as a Fellow in the College, with a career that is principally devoted to tax law and tax-related matters.
Mr. Spiro chairs Finn Dixon & Herling’s tax group and focuses on providing federal and state tax advice in connection with domestic and cross-border transactions, including hedge and private equity fund formations, mergers and acquisitions, and debt and equity financings and restructurings.
A frequent author and speaker, Michael has particular aptitude in complex partner taxation, the use of qualified small business stock in acquisitive transactions, and the structuring and modification of financial instruments. Michael has been a member of the ABA’s Tax Section for the past 19 years and is the current Chair of the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America in Tax Law (Stamford, CT) since 2021.
