Kelsey represents clients in complex civil litigation, securities litigation, regulatory enforcement matters and internal investigations.
Kelsey has experience litigating commercial, securities-related, and other business disputes in state and federal courts. She regularly represents private equity firms, investment managers, financial institutions, and other corporate clients in complex litigation. She also counsels clients in inquiries and investigations initiated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, FINRA, the U.S. Department of Justice, and other government regulators.
Her practice emphasizes practical, business-focused advocacy for clients facing significant legal, reputational, and financial exposure. She has represented clients at all stages of litigation, including pre-suit strategy, motion practice, discovery, settlement negotiations, trials, and appeals.
Kelsey is actively involved in pro bono work. She has represented clients in federal court in connection with federal civil rights cases, including a trial involving allegations of police misconduct and ongoing prisoners’ rights litigation against the Connecticut Department of Correction.
Before joining the firm, she practiced in the litigation group at Shearman & Sterling (now A&O Shearman) in New York, where she focused on securities litigation and internal investigations of large financial institutions.
Representative Matters
- Represented a private equity firm and its CEO in New York state trial and appellate litigation involving fraudulent transfer claims, including arguing the appeal before the First Department and securing affirmance of the dismissal of all claims.
- Represented the head of an equities derivatives desk at a major inter-dealer broker in a FINRA investigation involving novel “flying prices” allegations, resulting in termination without enforcement action.
- Represented a subcontractor in a multimillion-dollar commercial dispute, resulting in a favorable settlement.
- Represented multiple corporate entities in SEC investigations that resulted in terminations without enforcement actions.
- Conducted an internal investigation on behalf of a global alternative asset manager concerning allegations of employee misappropriation.
- Represented a large financial institution in a series of internal investigations involving several financial regulators.
